Leading with Listening

After winning a special election March 29, 2022 for the seat vacated by former councilmember Brad Cavanagh who was elected Mayor, Councilwoman Wethal set goals of prioritizing a strong economy, creating quality affordable and accessible childcare, safe neighborhoods, and expanding housing opportunities across Dubuque.

As a working mother of three and healthcare provider in our community, Katy has shown that she is an independent voice with a desire to lead with listening and work toward collaboration. “During my time on city council there has been incredible momentum built around the future of Dubuque. Priorities of growing our workforce and population will become reality by working together. I am running for reelection to do my part so that Dubuque’s best days are yet to come. It has been a privilege to serve my neighbors in this way and I am ready to continue to advocate to ensure that all voices are heard”.

Wethal has more than 20 years of healthcare experience. She is a nurse practitioner at Medical Associates in the internal medicine department. A native of Sabula, Iowa, Wethal graduated form Clarke University in 1999 and completed her graduate studies as a nurse practitioner at the University of Northern Colorado in 2003. In 2008, Wethal returned to Dubuque and the Fourth Ward, where she and her husband, Robert, are raising three children ages 16, 13 and 7.
